The Bridgeport Bluefish pounded out five home runs and fifteen hits en route to a convincing 12-6 victory over the Camden Riversharks. Camden has now lost eight of their last nine games.
Paul Oseguera (11-3) picked up the win despite allowing six earned runs and nine hits in 6.1 innings.
Eddy Camacho (6-6) took the loss surrendering five runs on six hits in just two innings including four home runs.
Luis Lopez wasted no time giving the Bluefish the lead in the top of the 1st with a two-run home run, his 10th, to make it 2-0 Bridgeport.
Camden fought back to tie the game in the home half of the 1st. After Noah Hall drove home Lloyd Turner with an RBI triple, Willis Otanez brought him in with an RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2.
Bridgeport added to their home run parade in the 2nd inning with three more in the 2nd inning. Prentice Redman, Luis Rodriguez, and Andres Perez all left the yard to give the Bluefish a 5-2 advantage.
The fireworks continued in the bottom of the 3rd as Alvin Colina launched a two-run home run, his 12th, to cut the deficit to 5-4.
The Bluefish added three runs in the 5th inning highlighted by a two-run double by Prentice Redman.
Bridgeport blew it open in the 6th inning with four more runs against the Riversharks bullpen. Luis Lopez collected his 4th hit with an RBI single and Steve Moss hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to 12-4.
Otanez is lazy! It shows in his defense play and running the bases Is he putting out a full effort ??
ReplyDeleteIs there something going on in the clubhouse? Recently there have been players quitting the team? All Star Jay Marshall, Mc Keller, Towers all of them were performing well and had nice stats etc.. Seems strange that with the 2nd half going better (until most recently) that this type of defections have occurred.
ReplyDeleteThe big losing streak nowadays- Are the players worn out? This has been sort of there playoffs of the regular season. They(some) seem nervous and tired. Of course give credit to the opponents whom have fought to the end and pulled out games in the final innings. An additional fielder would be nice to incite a little competition and also to provide options for pinch running, hitting and rest for players not playing well.
I have wondered about manager Hayes hook. For example Rivera or Hammes have pitched scoreless releif innings and in complete control inspite of this they get pulled. Why not give them a chance to go and save the game themselves -
First off, Otanez is a 38 year old guy who, up until a month ago, was playing in the Mexican League. They didn't sign him for his defensive abilities, they signed him cause they were down to four infielders. He can hit a ton, and putting him at first minimizes any defensive damage he can do.
ReplyDeleteSecond. It's a long season. Pitchers get tired. Marshall is a beast, McKeller got hurt, and Towers retired.
Third. If anything, Von is MUCH BETTER with the hook nowadays. In the beginning of the season he let guys go who were CLEARLY out of gas.
Blame it on storm Irene! After she went through NJ the Sharks have lost nearly every game.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Otanez is a slugger.I am not convinced of him inspite of his +.300 ave. His body language says alot to me about his effort and giving 100%. He is a veteran player and his time with Camden I willing to believe is short term.
Alot has changed in 10 days in reference to the teams chances and nice 2nd half turnaround. The 30% roster change has caught up to them especially the players lost to the affiliates. I guess I am a team building and building a winner type of guy. The indie Atlantic League teams, Camden included, have as a focus to get guys back into the big leagues vs winning traditions. York in my opinion has a nice team spirit and it has shown in the standings nicely. Thanks for your input, columns, photos etc.. Win or lose I am a Riversharks fan. Lets hope the season home stretch turns around for Camden.
