'Sharks Walkup Music Redux, Pt. III: Steve Doetsch

Doetschland über alles!! Steve Doetsch strikes me as a rockin' cat, always a threat to hit, even way down in the eight hole. So I think he needs something that says "Attention, opposing pitcher. Here comes the pain."

Anyway, The Good Lord Would Never Disrupt The Best Game Of Steve Doetsch's Life

Steve Doetsch's two home run, five RBI night was cut short by thunderstorms, but not before the 'Sharks took a 7-5 lead on the Lancaster Barnstormers into the 8th inning. After the briefest of brief rain delays, the game was declared official.

The 'Sharks have now won two series in a row and are off to a great second half start, taking two of three from the Patriots last week and the 'Stormers this week.

Keith Weiser got the start for Camden tonight but battled control issues. He lasted only three innings, giving up four runs on six hits and walking three.

Luckily, Camden's offense was in a battling mood as well. The two teams traded the lead back and forth all night, but the difference maker was Doetsch's three run blast off JD Durbin that made it 7-5. Spencer Steedley cruised through two innings of scoreless relief before the game was eventually called.

Notes: Lloyd Turner returned to the lineup tonight but didn't have a very productive night at the plate, finishing 0 for 4.

Just as last night's game ended with a tremendous on-the-run catch by 'Stormers outfielder Blake Gailen, tonight's first out for the 'Sharks came when right fielder Eduardo Perez made a spectacular leaping catch in the alley to rob Bridger Hunt.

Tonight's game featured an 8-3 DP by the 'Stormers and a 3-2-3 DP by the 'Sharks.

'Sharks Survive Late Rally, Beat Revs 6-5

The York Revolution scored twice in the ninth inning to cut the 'Sharks lead to a single run, but closer John Lujan struck out Ramon Castro for out number three, sealing the victory for Camden and earning Lujan his league leading 15th save.

Ricky Brooks got his sixth win of the season, but the righty battled all game, giving up a towering solo home run in the first to Castro that put the Revs up 1-0 right away.

Camden tied the game in the bottom of the first when a Pedro Feliz sac fly scored Chris Walker

Brooks got into more trouble in the third when an RBI single by Andres Perez plated Scott Grimes. Chris Nowak then grounded into an around the horn double play that scored Castro, but Brooks retired Michael Hernandez to escape the inning with the Revs up 3-1.


The 'Sharks took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning, a sac fly from Raul Padron scored Lloyd Turner, Alvin Colina's double off the wall scored Brian Burgamy, and Steve Doetsch singled in Colina to make it 4-3. 


Camden got two more runs in the fourth when another Feliz sac fly scored Patty Matera, and Colina singled to scored Burgamy. 


Brooks exited after five innings, giving way to the bullpen. Leo Rosales, Josh Walter and All Star Zach Hammes retired the Revs in order over the next three innings of work, setting the table for Lujan. 


Notes: Lloyd Turner exited the game in the third inning, Paddy Matera replaced him at second base. 

'Sharks Win Behind Solid Effort From Corey

Bryan Corey pitched effectively through 5 2/3 innings and earned his fourth win of 2012 as the Camden Riversharks beat the Long Island Ducks 6-2 tonight at Campbell's Field. Corey surrendered only one run on four hits while striking out two. 


Brian Burgamy blasted his seventh home run of the season deep to right to get the 'Sharks on the board in the bottom of the first. In the second, Jake Eigsti's RBI double scored Steve Doetsch and made it 2-0. 


Eigsti got another RBI in the fourth on a sacrifice fly that scored Drew Macias, and the 'Sharks lead it 3-0. Macias, the #7 hitter, had two stolen bases on the night.


Camden got another run in the fifth when Pedro Feliz grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Lloyd Turner. 


Camden nearly coughed up the lead in the sixth. After a James McOwen solo shot finally got the Ducks on the board, reliever Eddy Camacho threw seven straight balls and walked his way into a bases loaded 2 out jam. Camacho got Colin Roberson swinging for out number three. 


Long Island scored once more in the seventh when McOwen singled in Kraig Binick to make it 4-2 before Ron Karkovice had seen enough of Camacho. Josh Walter was brought in to get the last out of the inning. 


The 'Sharks tacked on some insurance in the eighth when Macias scored after an error by Ducks reliever Eric Niesen, and some smart baserunning by Steve Doetsch allowed him to score on a wild pitch from Jon Hunton.


John Lujan came on in the ninth and retired the Ducks in order. 

Farnsy's Miscue Lets York Jump The 'Sharks

Brandon Haveman hit a three run, bases clearing double in the seventh inning off 'Sharks reliever Jeff Farnsworth, and the Revolution held on to win 4-2 tonight at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

In five innings of work, Camden starter Bryan Corey held the Revs to just one (unearned) run on five hits while striking out six. But all the Riversharks offense could muster in response was two runs in the first inning, when Brian Burgamy's RBI single scored Chris Walker and Lloyd Turner.

Haveman got one run back for York in the bottom of the frame when he scored after Chris Nowak hit into a fielder's choice.

Steve Doetsch lead off the second with a triple, but was left stranded after a groundout from Turner, and strikeouts from Burgamy and Scott Knazek.

The Revs bullpen came through in a big way in relief of starter Jesus Sanchez, who exited after just an inning and two thirds. Lefty Yunior Novoa recorded five strikeouts in his three innings of relief. R.J. Rodriguez notched his 7th save of 2012, retiring the 'Sharks in order in the ninth.

Jake Eigsti's hitting woes continued as he went 0 for 4 at the dish tonight. In his last ten games, Eigsti is 6 for 38, for a miserable .157 batting average.

Mike McGuire Can't Catch A Break

A three run Somerset fifth inning proved to be too much to overcome as the Camden Riversharks fell to the Somerset Patriots, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon. 

For the third time in two days the Sharks (17-19) jumped out to an early lead over the Pats (15-20). The scoring got started in the fourth when Steve Doetsch led off the inning with a triple to right center. Two outs later catcher Scott Knazek came up with a three-bagger of his own to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. 

Camden starter Mike McGuire (2-4) retired nine of the first ten he faced before Patriot first baseman Adam Donachie doubled to start the fifth inning. One out later Rex Rundgren singled home Donachie to tie the game at 1. The big blow came five batters later when Jeff Nettles ripped a two out, bases loaded double plating two more runs to the Pats a 3-1 lead. 

The Sharks would get one back in the bottom of the eighth when a one out Eduardo Perez double scored Brian Burgamy from first to cut the deficit to one. 

Camden would have a chance to tie it in the bottom of the ninth when Drew Macias led off with a pinch-hit single. A Chris Walker sacrifice would advance him to second and then third after a Lloyd Turner grounded out. With two away Marquez Smith hit a slow roller to third, but a great catch and tag from first baseman Adam Donachie saved Jeff Nettles from an error and preserved a 3-2 win for the Patriots. 

Halama's Gem Sinks Sharks, 5-2

Barnstormers lefty John Halama went the distance against the Riversharks this afternoon, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out seven.

Lancaster got to 'Sharks starter Mike McGuire early. In the 2nd, Brad Boyer tripled to score Ryan Harvey, and Jaime Pedroza singled in Boyer to take a 2-0 lead.

The 'Stormers tacked on two more runs in the 4th when a sac fly from Francisco Hernandez scored Blake Gailen, and Adam Godwin's single to left scored Boyer.

Camden's only runs came in the bottom of the 5th, after a series of errors by Lancaster infielders Paddy Matera and Steven Doetsch both scored, cutting the 'Sharks deficit in half at 4-2.

The 'Stormers added an insurance run in the 8th, when Boyer again singled in Ryan Harvey, making it 5-2.

The win marked a milestone for Barnstormers manager Butch Hobson, as he notched his 1500 win in pro ball. 

Ah Yes, The Old 3-5-2-5-4-5 Double Play. That Old Chestnut.

Colina is never, EVER getting this jersey back.

It didn't take long for Scott Knazek to make an impact with his new squad.

The 27 year old catcher was released from the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League on Wednesday. Tonight, inserted into the 'Sharks lineup and wearing Alvin Colina's #25 jersey, Knazek launched the first pitch he saw from 'Stormers righty Mark Brackman over the left field wall.

The Barnstormers got on the board first, when in the top of the first Fehlandt Lentini took a Keith Weiser fastball deep over the wall in left center. But the 'Sharks answered back in the bottom of the frame when Drew Macias homered to right to tie it at 1-1.

Macias blasted a line drive over the right field wall to tie the game.

Billy Rice took advantage of right fielder Ryan Harvey's fielding error in the bottom of the second, stretching a ball that should have been caught into a one out triple. Then Steven Doetsch hit into the weirdest double play I've ever seen, going 3-5-2-5-4-5 to get Rice breaking for home and Doetsch halfway between 2nd and 3rd.

Knazek's 2 run homer followed in the 3rd. Lancaster would tie the game at 3 in the fourth, when a Jaime Pedroza single scored Jesus Merchan and Kody Kirkland. But the Riversharks pulled ahead in the bottom of the frame when RBI singles from Knazek, Chris Walker and Lloyd Turner made it 6-3.

The bullpen combo of Kyle Reese, Jason Bergamann and John Lujan combined for 7 strikeouts in relief of Weiser, and shut the door on any hopes of a 'Stormers late inning rally. Weiser gets the win, his first of 2012. Lujan gets the save, his second.

Sharks win!! 

Atlantic League Umpires Beat Sharks, 2-1

Controversy swirled as an overturned call helped sink the Camden Riversharks in a Matinee pitchers’ duel at Clipper Magazine Stadium Tuesday, falling 2-1 to the Lancaster Barnstormers. 

Barnstormers (6-6) third baseman Terry Tiffee committed two errors in the top of the first, allowing Lloyd Turner to score and give Camden (5-7) the early lead. 

But that was all the offense the Sharks could muster against Barnstormers starter Rich Rundles. 

Rundles (1-0) went seven innings giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out nine Sharks en route to the win. 

Camden starter Bryan Corey (1-2) did everything he could to keep Camden in the game, going six strong innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits. 

Lancaster tied the game in the third when Adam Godwin doubled, reached third on a passed ball, and scored the unearned run on a sacrifice fly from Blake Gailen. 

Then in the fifth the Barnstormers pushed across the eventual game winner with a Brandon Haveman single to score Jamie Pedroza. 

Then the madness ensued when Steven Doetsch sent one over the right field fence for, what was originally called, a home run. 

Barnstormer manager Butch Hobson stormed out to argue. The umpires gathered and eventually overturned the call, ruling it foul. 

That sent Riversharks manager Jeff Scott into a tizzy, getting him ejected for his display of his thoughts on the decision. 

Doetsch would beat out an infield single later in the at bat and the Riversharks would get runners on the corners, but Tim Hamulack was able to fan Chris Walker to preserve the win for the Barnstormers and pick up his league-high fifth save of the season. The Riversharks stranded nine runners on base in the game. 

Felix Pie had his hitting streak snapped at ten games. It was the first game Pie played in this season that he didn't record a hit.
