Toby Hall's Soulpatch Calls It A Career

Former Rays C Toby Hall has decided to retire as a player.

Hall, 36, spent parts of seven season with the Rays, making his debut in 2000 and being traded to the Dodgers in June 2006. His 586 games played for the Rays are fifth most in franchise history, and the most of any catcher.

Hall spent 2007-08 with the White Sox, battled shoulder problems the next two years and played this past season with the Camden (N.J.) team in the independent Atlantic League, hitting .255 with 2 homers and 32 RBIs in 93 games, while hoping to get a shot to return to the majors.

"It's been a great journey,'' Hall said. "I'm going to hang out with the family, concentrate on my foundation and have my agents start looking into my next journey.''

In his nine big-league seasons, Hall hit .262 with 46 homers and 269 RBIs. His best season was 2003, when he hit .253 with 12 homers and 47 RBIs for the Rays.
