Farnsy Jumps The 'Sharks

The Camden Riversharks announced today they have traded pitcher Jeff Farnsworth to the Sugarland Skeeters for future considerations. In 21 games with the 'Sharks this year, Farnsy was 0-2 with a 6.47 ERA.

Revs Outslug 'Sharks 7-6

You would think that on a night when two Sharks hit three-run home runs, including a four-hit game from Raul Padron, the team would win, right?
Not on this night. The York Revolution outslugged the Camden Riversharks, 7-6, to earn a split of the two-game series in Camden Friday night at Campbell’s Field.
Brandon Haveman, who shined on offense and defense in this one, led off the game with a solo home run to right. York (36-32) tacked on two more in the inning to jump out 3-0 on Bryan Corey (5-6). Corey went five innings and gave up seven runs on ten hits to take the loss.

But Camden (32-35) responded in the bottom of the frame. After retiring the first two batters he faced, Omar Javier (1-5) had Brian Burgamy in a 1-and-2 count. Burgamy continued to battle and earned a walk to give Pedro Feliz a chance at the dish. Feliz hit a sharp ground ball to third that ate up Kyle Haines, who has now made three errors in six games this season, to extend the inning. Raul Padron made them pay with a three-run shot to left, his first homer of the season, to tie the game.

The Revs regained the lead in the second on a double from Andres Perez, scoring Haveman. It was the second time in as many innings Haveman touched home. He finished the day 3-for-5 and a triple away from the cycle.

York added to their lead in the fifth with a three-run blast from Liu Rodriguez. It was the second home run Corey surrendered in the game, giving him the most home runs allowed in the league to this point in the season.

The offense firepower cooled and Camden was searching for a spark in the seventh. With Blake King on the mound and runners at the corners, a wild pitch squirted through the legs of Alvin Colina. Michael Hernandez, the runner at third, tried to score on the play but Colina pounced on it quickly and delivered a perfect toss to King covering, barely tagging out Hernandez and ending the inning with the Sharks still down four.

Colina made that play even more important in the home half of the frame when he drilled a Deep, with a capital ‘D’, three-run home run to left to make it a one run game.

That, plus four scoreless innings from the Sharks bullpen combo of Blake King, Mariano Gomez and Leo Rosales, put a jolt back into the crowd and it looked as though the Sharks could pull out the victory.
The Sharks hadn’t been set down in order once through the first seven innings but Adam Thomas and Ricardo Gomez pitched perfect innings each to end the game and finish off the Sharks in their final game at Campbell’s Field for the first half.

'Sharks Survive Late Rally, Beat Revs 6-5

The York Revolution scored twice in the ninth inning to cut the 'Sharks lead to a single run, but closer John Lujan struck out Ramon Castro for out number three, sealing the victory for Camden and earning Lujan his league leading 15th save.

Ricky Brooks got his sixth win of the season, but the righty battled all game, giving up a towering solo home run in the first to Castro that put the Revs up 1-0 right away.

Camden tied the game in the bottom of the first when a Pedro Feliz sac fly scored Chris Walker

Brooks got into more trouble in the third when an RBI single by Andres Perez plated Scott Grimes. Chris Nowak then grounded into an around the horn double play that scored Castro, but Brooks retired Michael Hernandez to escape the inning with the Revs up 3-1.


The 'Sharks took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning, a sac fly from Raul Padron scored Lloyd Turner, Alvin Colina's double off the wall scored Brian Burgamy, and Steve Doetsch singled in Colina to make it 4-3. 


Camden got two more runs in the fourth when another Feliz sac fly scored Patty Matera, and Colina singled to scored Burgamy. 


Brooks exited after five innings, giving way to the bullpen. Leo Rosales, Josh Walter and All Star Zach Hammes retired the Revs in order over the next three innings of work, setting the table for Lujan. 


Notes: Lloyd Turner exited the game in the third inning, Paddy Matera replaced him at second base. 

El Scorcho By Weiser

Keith Weiser threw six innings of shutout baseball and the Camden Riversharks provided just enough offense to defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers 2-1 tonight at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Weiser allowed five hits while striking out three in his longest outing this season.

The 'Sharks got to Lancaster starter John Halama early. In the first, Chris Walker led off with a single, stole second, and took third on a throwing error by catcher Emerson Frostad. A Lloyd Turner sac fly scored Walker, and two batters later Raul Padron's RBI single scored Brian Burgamy to make it 2-0.

Which it would remain for nearly the entire game. Weiser got some help from the 'Sharks defense, the 'Stormers grounded into two inning ending double plays in the first and third.

Spencer Steedley worked a scoreless inning in relief of Weiser, and the got the 'Stormers to ground into ANOTHER inninng ending double play in the seventh.

Lancaster's lone run came in the eighth off reliever Zach Hammes. Jaime Pedroza's ground out scored pinch hitter Terry Tifee from third to cut the lead to 2-1. But that was as close as the 'Stormers would get. John Lujan came on in the ninth and retired the side in order to earn his Atlantic League leading 14th save.

Notes: Scary moment for Brian Burgamy, in the third he was hit squarely on the knee by an errant Halama pitch that sent him sprawling at the plate. It looked awful, but he quickly recovered and jogged to first.

At first I thought it was a mistake, but turns out John Halama hit for himself tonight in the #9 spot. He laid down a pretty solid sac bunt in the fifth to advance Ryan Harvey to third base.

Barnstormers Dump Camden, Clinch First Half

It’s onto the playoffs for the 2012 Lancaster Barnstormers. 

Lancaster grabbed a lead in the bottom of the fifth, then took advantage of a bout of wildness from the Camden bullpen to take a 12-5 victory over the Riversharks Monday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Combined with a York loss to Somerset, the win gave the Barnstormers the first half title in the Freedom Division.

The Barnstormers broke out early against spot starter Kevin Reese, pitching in lieu of lefty Keith Weiser, who was unable to go because of a blister on his pitching hand. Fehlandt Lentini cracked a two-run homer to right for a quick 2-0 lead, and Emerson Frostad tacked on a solo shot in the second as the Barnstormers went ahead, 3-0. That lead was extended to 4-0 in the third when Lentini crossed the plate with an unearned run on a two-out RBI single to left center by Blake Gailen.

Camden narrowed the gap to 4-3 in the fourth. Alan Johnson (6-4), who had retired seven batters in a row entering the inning, walked Brian Burgamy leading off. One out later, Johnson also put Raul Padron aboard, and Alvin Colina followed with a double inside the first base bag. Eduardo Perez delivered a two-run double to left center for an additional two runs before Johnson recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

Two singles and a throwing error stretched the Lancaster lead back to two, but Camden quickly tied the game in the fifth. Chris Walker led off with a base on balls and stole second. One out later, he scored on Brian Burgamy’s single to center. Burgamy took second on a throw home and he was brought to the plate on an ensuing ground single by Pedro Feliz for the 5-5 deadlock.

Lentini opened the home half of the fifth with an infield single. With one out and Tommy Everidge at the plate, the Lancaster right fielder broke for second on the first move by Eddy Camacho (0-1). Burgamy’s throw sailed into left field, sending Lentini to third, and Tommy Everidge knocked him home with a sacrifice fly to center.

Both bullpens locked the game down until the bottom of the eighth when Everidge’s double, an RBI single by Pedroza and five walks led to six runs to blow the game open.

In a symbolic move, manager Butch Hobson allowed eighth-year Barnstormer Ross Peeples to wrap up the game. The left-hander walked Steve Doetsch to start the inning but got a routine fly ball and a double play to send Lancaster into the post-season.

The celebration began, but the Barnstormers looked at it as only a precursor to a much bigger area wide party in October.

Rosales graduated from Reseda High School in 1999. He attended California State University, Northridge and was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 20th round (581st overall) of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft. 


He spent 4½ seasons in the Padres system. On July 27, 2007, he was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Scott Hairston. He had been out with a right hand injury since June 5, 2007, when the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired him.

He played in the winter of 2007 in the Mexican Pacific League with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo.
Rosales made his Major League debut on June 15, 2008, for the Diamondbacks.

'Sharks Win 4-3, Lujan Earns His 13th Save

The Camden Riversharks hold on to beat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, 4-3, in Sunday’s series finale at Campbell’s Field. The win gives Camden a 3-1 series win.

The Blue Crabs (28-35) jumped out in front early. Matt Padgett led off the second with a walk and came around to score on a Brian Barton double. The Riversharks (30-32) countered with two in the home half of the inning thanks to four singles to help Raul Padron and Alvin Colina score.

Bryan Corey was back to his old form in his start Sunday. Corey (5-5) went 6+ innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits to pick up the win. The Crabs were able to tie it in the fourth though. Brian Barton singled and stole second before Jeremy Owens served a single into left field. Eduardo Perez bobbled the ball, allowing Barton to score an unearned run.

Camden got back in front when Jake Eigsti led off the fifth inning with a deep home run through the wind to left field. Southern Maryland countered with a solo blast of their own from Casey Benjamin. It was the 13 home run allowed by Corey on the season.

The Riversharks took the lead for good when Perez led off the home half of the sixth with a double and scored on a Paddy Matera single. Josh Walter, Zach Hammes and John Lujan each pitched a scoreless inning in relief to secure the victory. Lujan let runners at the corners with two down in the ninth but was able to strike out Mike Daniel to end the game and pick up save number 13 on the season.
